You might have already seen my post on the abandoned mustang I found ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) and I just now started the process of getting a title in my name. In Colorado, this is a huge pain and one of the most complicated and long processes you can go through. I contacted the owner of the property I found it on once already to get details. It is a 1967 hardtop with the 302 v8 engine and manual transmission. The exterior is in excellent condition for a car that has been sitting for a decade and the interior has normal wear and tear. It runs and drives but is missing two hubcaps, has a flat tire, and the engine bay is FILLED with dirt. This car has been in the same spot with the doors unlocked and they keys in plain view on the dash since the owner of the property (a disused sugar mill) bought it in 1992. The owner of the property has no knowledge of who owns the car and it HAS NOT been moved since the purchase of the mill. I called the local sheriff who will come get the VIN and license plate number on Friday. If the car has not been reported stolen it will be put up for claim over a period of 60 days and if the owner does not come get it then I will pay the owner of the mill to buy a bond and get a title transfer into his name. I can then get my money back from the bond and he will transfer the title to my name. As a poor high school student with a falling apart 1998 sn95 this could very well be the best thing that has ever happened to me.
TL;DR If every step of this process, including mountains of red tape and paperwork come through than in 4 to 5 months I will own a good condition 67 GT for the small price of DMV fees and a consideration for the owner of the property it was found on.

Nice!! Hope it works out! That will be one hell of a project, though.

Dude. I wish I was in your position. Highest of hopes for your success, and total support for anything you need to get that thing. Every other high school student wishes they were you now- there is no cooler concievable high-school car than that.

Good luck! Assuming it all goes well, any plans for a full restoration, or does it get to keep it's earned, weathered appearance?

oooh that's a toughie , it all depends on my future finances but I would love to turn the SN95 into a beater/hoonmobile and make the 67 beautiful again

That's cool. The car I'm after needs some TLC, but nothing like what you're describing. My dad (once upon a time) had a 68 GT350, so while I'm not a Ford guy (Chevy, unlike my dad), anything that keeps these old monsters running is welcome.
Keep us all posted!

Fortunately, every single part is available for it. What happened to the original motor is a big question though...

what are you after? Old Camaro or Corvette? Something more interesting like a Corvair?

Didn't the 302 come in that year? I was fairly sure it did..

'68 was the first year for the 302.

ahhhhh, okay. Well that is a great question then. But it definitely doesn't detract from the awesomeness of this situation.

Actually, I'm after an R129 SL600 Sport (AMG) Mercedes. There's a bit of debate about the car, and luckily I have a friend who can run the VIN and get me a full report of the whole nine yards about it.
I'm also after one of the new Dodge Magnums with a 5.7. Looking to do a reliable 6 speed swap in time. A couple more months and I'm out of college, so that will open the doors to making these both start to happen.
I love old muscle cars, but I'm waiting to find the right one. With a combination of my dads old pictures and my mom's memory, I'm going to eventually try and find a 68 Fairlane, and build it to what my dad used to own (427 Cobra Jet, 4 speed, 2 door sedan, sea green). I've only seen literally a couple of Fairlanes, and neither were the same body style my dad had. Most of the muscle cars he had are far from attainable today, so I'm trying to pick the one he talks about most. He had several Shelby AC Cobras, the GT350, the Fairlane, and I'm sure others he hasn't mentioned. He hated his old Volvo, and learned on a 55hp Buick, but I don't know what. It's hard as anything to get him to even go to a car show, and he can't stand the Mercedes (it's my boss's car, I keep it running, and take care of basic maintenance on it). I drove it for a month when I hit a deer, and my dad (while he didn't like it) realized that I'm not such a psychotic driver as he thought. I can usually squeeze better MPG out of anything I'm behind the wheel of, and my dad is pretty good at guessing. He guessed 15mpg, and I averaged 17.8. Not bad for a 5000 pound V12 car.
I do love Corvettes (favorite car), but many of the owners out here just don't really share any enthusiasm. There's a local corvette night, and they all spend the time sitting in their chairs not talking to each other. It was a real turn-off for me, though I still love the cars just as much.

Also, if the car hasn't moved since 1992 how is it a running driving car? Did the land owner go and start it every once and a while?
